Hillier Hopkins began life in 1933 as Lewis Hillier & Co accountants in Luton, expanding into Hemel Hempstead soon after. Founder John Hillier was joined by Len Hopkins and the firm became Hillier Hopkins & Co. Since then, we have continued to expand thanks to the wonderful people throughout our firm’s history who have shaped its growth and development.
Over the years Hillier Hopkins has trained hundreds of qualified accountants and advised many thousands of individuals, sole traders, partnerships and companies including PLCs and financial institutions. We have a long history of supporting local causes and dedicating time and expertise to local community bodies and professional associations.
Although the firm’s founders have sadly passed away, their legacy lives on in our “friendly expertise” ethos and our commitment to remaining independent and maintaining the highest possible technical, ethical and professional standards.
“Over the past 90 years, Hillier Hopkins has expanded steadily in size and geographic reach to become one of the region’s leading independent firms. We are very fortunate in that throughout our growth we have been able to attract a hugely talented team who continue to deliver our ethos of “friendly expertise”. Our focus is on preserving this ethos and working hard to ensure that our clients prosper above all else.
It’s important to us to support the communities we work in and the world we live in. We have a growing commitment to the UNs Sustainable Development Goals and are working on an environmental policy and initiative to reduce our environmental impact on the world.”
We have a long tradition of supporting our communities and the world we all inhabit. We continue to implement new measures to decrease our environmental impact. The Principals have adopted an Environmental Policy and our sustainability team of volunteers across the firm have been working hard to implement its recommendations.

We are proud to support local charities and causes through a number of different events. For the past few years we have been supporting The Pepper Foundation, a small charity which aims to alleviate the suffering of children diagnosed with life-limiting and life-threatening illnesses by funding children’s hospice at home nursing care in Bucks and Herts, and have raised over £17,000 for the charity.
We also held a Lands End to John o’Groats challenge to raise £12,231 for the Cancer Care & Haematology Fund.
We take part in charity days such as Macmillan Coffee Morning and Christmas Jumper Day.
Through sponsorship and donations we support a number of local sports clubs and initiatives.
These include Tabard Rugby Club, Aylesbury Dynamos youth football, Hemel Hempstead Cricket Club, The Lord’s Taverners Ouse Valley Christmas Lunch, Willen Hospice, The Hospice of St Francis and more.

The inaugural Accountancy Age Mid-Tier Power Index celebrates excellence in the accountancy profession in four categories – strategic planning, profitability and growth, professional excellence, and people and community.
To be recognised in the top 20 is thanks to the hard work and commitment of the whole Hillier Hopkins team.
We are fully subscribed to the training and technical requirements as set down by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) and subject to their periodic QAD quality checks.
In 2020, Hillier Hopkins was the first UK firm to join TGS, a young, dynamic and rapidly growing community of professional firms. Membership of TGS connects us to 68 firms and 4,300 accountants, lawyers and professional staff in 57 countries worldwide.
Hillier Hopkins invests heavily in staff training and has held the “Investor in People” (IIP) accreditation since 1996. We were one of the first accountancy firms in Hertfordshire to be awarded the IIP accreditation and now hold the Gold Accreditation. We also feature on page 33 of the IIP brochure of sustainable success.
We are members of AISMA, the Association of Independent Specialist Medical Accountants, which is a national network of over 75 firms providing expert advice to medical practices, sessional GPs and hospital doctors.
