We are honoured to receive this award from Community Southwark for our work with Southwark communities providing free tax and accounting training.
The training workshop “Know your numbers” was developed by Audit Director, Katie Harvard-Taylor and Accounts Manager, Deb Botting, for Community Southwark’s members. It is designed to help those working in small charities and not-for-profits navigate the rules and regulations surrounding tax and accounting.
Last year, we launched our staff volunteer programme, giving all staff paid time off work for volunteering activities. The firm partnered with Community Southwark which supports corporate employees to volunteer their professional skills for the benefit of voluntary and community groups across the borough. Katie Harvard-Taylor explained, “I really wanted to volunteer using my skills as a Chartered Accountant as I hoped it would have a greater impact on the participants and their organisations, equipping them with the knowledge they need to run their organisations effectively. Hearing all the positive feedback on the impact that the workshops have had has been really rewarding.”
Often the unsung heroes, small charities and voluntary groups make a huge difference to people’s lives and boost our economy. They also face significant funding challenges so good financial skills are essential, however training can be expensive. Alex Bottom, Managing Principal said, “We are delighted to be part of Community Southwark’s corporate partnership programme and to be able to apply our experience advising charities of all sizes to support these stars of our community.”
