We are delighted to announce the promotion of Ruth Corkin and the appointment of Alpa Adatia further strengthening our market-leading VAT and indirect tax team.
Our VAT and indirect tax team leader Ruth Corkin has been promoted to Principal from 1 April and Alpa Adatia joined the team as an Assistant VAT Manager.
Ruth is a highly experienced VAT and indirect tax expert and has sat on the government’s Alternative Arrangements for Northern Ireland Committee, is the current Technical Chair of the VAT Practitioners Group and a champion for the access to HMRC’s systems for SMEs.
She is the driving force behind our indirect tax practice, including our dedicated customs declaration service. We remain the only mid-tier accountancy firm to provide a customs service helping businesses with the documentation needed to move goods to and from mainland Europe and to Northern Ireland.
Alpa Adatia joined Hillier Hopkins on 22 March following 11 years working for HMRC as a higher executive officer. She brings to the firm a detailed knowledge and understanding of VAT and the workings of HMRC.
Commenting on her promotion and on the appointment of Alpa, Ruth said: “It is an honour and privilege to have been given this promotion following such a challenging year in terms of tax compliance following the end of the transitional arrangements with the EU and the coronavirus pandemic.
I am thrilled to be joined by Alpa, who brings real and practical knowledge of VAT at a time when demand for guidance and support has never been greater. She is a real asset for the firm and our clients.”
Alex Bottom, Managing Principal said: “I would like to extend the entire firm’s congratulations to Ruth on her well-deserved promotion. The past 12 months have been a challenging business environment with VAT and indirect taxes very much at front of mind for businesses. Ruth’s professionalism, dedication and understanding of the needs of business is at the heart of her success.
“I would also like to extend a warm welcome to Alpa. The demand for VAT support has never been greater and we all look forward to the contribution she will bring and to the continued growth of the team.”
