Mental Health Awareness Week (MHA) is designed to raise awareness around mental health and mental health problems. MHA week has been running for 19 years and the theme for 2020 is ‘Kindness’.

During the outbreak of Coronavirus everyone’s mental health has been impacted differently. It is important to recognise this and find ways to keep your mental health under control. For many of us working from home is a completely new world, it can feel very isolating at times.

Here at Hillier Hopkins we have put together a list of our top tips on how we are keeping on top of our mental health at home:

  • Running has been a very popular one among our staff – this can sound very daunting if you are new to running but there are many apps out there that help ease you in!
  • Making sure we have a set routine everyday
  • Putting time aside each evening for some self-care – take a bath, read a book, have time away from technology.
  • Listen to a podcast – there are so many amazing ones out there.
  • Set up a work station that has a good view – face your garden, buy different types of bird food and hang them around the garden.  During the day you will see the birds come down at different times and makes you realise there is still life out there.
  • Take a walk in your lunch hour / before or after work – it will leave you feeling refreshed and relaxed.
  • Turn on your favourite music and sing out loud – channel your inner Beyonce
  • Stay in contact with your colleagues via video calls or even group Whatsapp.
  • Have regular tea / coffee breaks – your brain needs stimulating and time away from the computer screen.
  • Download / buy a colour by numbers app or book – this is a great way to destress and focuses your mind elsewhere.

These are just some of our top tips but it is important to remember – do what makes you happy and ‘In a world where you can be anything, be kind!’
