Some of the reasons why people need to seek advice abroad are obvious, but others may surprise you. These are a few situations you may find interesting.
A foreign exchange client has units at airports around the world. Like every business, they have stock, but their stock is special: it is cash in different foreign currencies. When we were approached to audit their accounts we considered how we would be able to audit their stocks of cash. The cost of sending our own team to these locations to count the cash would have been prohibitive. However, we were able to use the TGS network to send local auditors to carry out our work and report back to us, which made the exercise affordable and efficient. Likewise, a wholesale and retail client which holds stocks in international warehouses was able to be audited in the same way.
These examples demonstrate how it is not just the ability seek independent professional advice overseas that our network gives us, but access to trusted resources to reach out globally.
In another example, we were asked to take over the UK audits of a well known global company. In discussion, we identified that this client had other subsidiaries in countries where TGS has high quality audit firms, and we were able to save the client considerable effort and money by asking these firms to quote for the local audits. The only alternative for our client would have been to use the top tier firms, which was neither desirable for them, nor cost effective.
Moving from global businesses to local ones, there are several examples of clients who have employees dotted around Europe. They need local VAT and payroll services, which we have been able to co-ordinate for them, so that they did not have to source reliable services for themselves.
Many of our clients have benefitted from the TGS network in dealing with the import and export of goods, local accounting and outsourcing services in overseas countries and company formations compliant with local laws.
