Elizabeth Wicks has today (7 September) been named as one of the UK’s elite accountants by the prestigious industry newspaper Accountancy Age.
She joins Accountancy Age magazine’s 35 under 35, recognised for rapid career development, her role in advising schools, and for developing a network that empowers women from all walks of business life. Accountancy Age call her one of Hillier Hopkin’s “rising stars”.
Elizabeth joined Hillier Hopkins in 2010 on its graduate training programme, quickly progressing her career to become a director in April 2021. She is a key member of the firm’s dedicated education team, leading audits for academy trusts across the South East.
Accountancy Age highlights a network, called SHE Means Business, established by Elizabeth that empowers women from all walks of business and at all stages of their career.
The motivation behind SHE Means Business comes from Elizabeth’s own experiences of attending networking events and realising that there were “wonderful and knowledgeable people” missing from the table.
“Breakfast and after work networking events are difficult, if near impossible, for working parents and I wanted to create something that was easy for everyone to attend” Elizabeth told Accountancy Age. SHE Means Business holds networking events during the working day.
Elizabeth adds: “It is a real honour to be recognised by Accountancy Age and a privilege to have SHE Means Business recognised. I want SHE Means Business to achieve more than being just another networking event. I wanted to create events where attendees “take away more than just business cards”, so each event focuses on a keynote speaker
“I am very mindful that when ‘you know you don’t know’ something, it’s easy to ask a question, but what about when you ‘don’t know what you don’t know’? My goal has always been that if just one person has a moment where they say ‘ah ha, that’s something I can do immediately to benefit my business’ then I deem the event a success.”
Alex Bottom, Managing Principal, Hillier Hopkins adds: “We are delighted Liz has been recognised by Accountancy Age 35 under 35. As a firm we encourage an entrepreneurial spirit and Liz is incredibly proactive and a real asset to the team. I’m sure this will be just one of many achievements during her career.”
