How would you describe your journey at Hillier Hopkins?
A lot of hard work but fun at the same time, starting as an ACA graduate and progressing through the ranks to principal. I’m lucky to have been supported by mentors and colleagues at every step of the journey, learning from those around me.
What excites you the most about your new role as principal?
The opportunity to have a greater strategic influence on the firm, helping shape its future.
Supporting the next generation of accountants. The chance to work more closely with clients on a higher level, advising them beyond the numbers.
How have you developed your skills over your time at HH?
Going through the ACA programme and working my way up through the ranks I have developed strong technical expertise in audit and accounts, but just as importantly I’ve developed the interpersonal and soft skills that are crucial for building strong relationships with colleagues and clients. These relationships are the foundation of a successful and fulfilling career in audit. I’ve been fortunate to work with a diverse range of clients across different industries and stages of growth, which has broadened my perspective as well as doing a stint in the corporation tax department which gave me insight from the tax perspective and has helped shape me as a well-rounded auditor and advisor.
What would you say are your key strengths?
I would say my biggest strength is my ability to build strong, trusted relationships. I’m personable, approachable, and enjoy working with both colleagues and clients, which helps build long-term partnerships. I’m a team player who thrives in a collaborative environment, and I believe in supporting those around me to achieve shared success.
What advice would you give others who are trying to climb the ladder or those who are starting out?
Be proactive. Take every opportunity to get involved, even outside of your direct job role. Volunteering for different projects not only expands your experience but also helps you build relationships across the firm, making work more engaging and rewarding.
Building strong internal and external relationships is key. Having a good network of supportive colleagues and mentors can make a huge difference in your career.
What challenges do you anticipate within this new role?
Managing the transition from being a peer to a leader at the partner level.
What do you hope to accomplish in this new role in the next 3-6 months?
I want to continue supporting our London audit team and clients, strengthening key client relationships. I look forward to stepping into my leadership role as chair of the sustainability team, helping drive the firm’s efforts, establishing a clear direction for our initiatives, ensuring they align with the firm’s values.
